The End of ENG 103.0888
The end has arrived. I've gained so much knowledge in this class. I learned how to organize a research paper, how to introduce a quote in many different ways, about quotation paragraphs and how to construct a well structured paper. This class varied from others because the professor guided us throughout the way and that was very helpful. She dedicated a lot of time to her students and she also allowed us to work on our research paper in class and that really came in handy. English 103 with Professor Salamat was an interesting and fun class. Now I just have to see what my final grade on my paper will be and what my overall grade will be for this class. :)

extra credit
As extra credit, I commented on one of thd student's blog who is writing her paper based on the immigration topic. Below is the link to my comment that I posted on Dionne Robinsons page.

Progress of my final reseach paper
The semester is almost over and I can't believe that my final paper is done. At first I thought to myself, "how can I complete a 8-10 page paper?" Thanks to professor Salamat, everything was much easied than I thought. The professor encouraged us to do our first draft, quotation paragraph, outline and research proposal which made it easy for me to construct my final essay. I just have to revise my essay and hopefully I can get an A+. I'm still impressed how time flew this semester. I really enjoyed this class.

Progress of my Draft
I haven't started my draft yet (yikes!) but I do have all of my ideas and I just have to organize them well before I submit my draft. I will use my outline to write my draft and I'll also go into details with each of the subtopics. I don't know how to construct all of the information that I retained from my parents' interviews, but I got this. (Lol, hopefully).

QUOTATION PARAGRAPH
1)
In the Dominican
Republic, people choose to migrate to the United States seeking for a better
future. In the article, “Dominican Americans”, Sean T. Buffington states,
“Dominicans continued to emigrate, because of limited employment opportunities
and poor economic conditions. Studies have shown that those who emigrate are
better educated than those they left on the island and were more likely to have
been employed when they left the Dominican Republic”. In other words, people who migrate from the
Dominican Republic to the United States have a better chance of being
successful and their chances of finding employment in the U.S are higher than
the chances in the Dominican Republic. More opportunities are available to
immigrants in the U.S. I agree with Buffington that more opportunities are
available to Dominicans in the North because opportunities are very limited in
the Dominican Republic. Students out there spent many
years in school, earn their bachelor’s degree and struggle even harder to find
a good paying job. Household incomes are also very low for those who obtain a
college degree and it’s even lower for those who barely obtain a high school
diploma.
2)
Society may say that
immigrants choose to enter the United States in hopes of reaching the “American
Dream”. There are many unanswered questions as to why people choose to leave
their country. In the article, “Dominican Americans”, Ramona Hernandez says, “Dominican
migration, however, revolved around three questions: Who were the migrants, why
did they come to the U.S and whether migration had been a stepwise decision?”
The majority of Dominicans migrate in search of a better lifestyle but not all
of them have the same reason. Some migrate due to the unfairness within the
political system. Dominicans also benefit from the U.S because a large variety
of assistance is available to them such as free medical assistance, financial assistance,
and several programs are available to low income families, which in several
cases many Dominicans meet the requirements for.
3)
Within time, the
Hispanic population has expanded in the United States. In “Hispanics of
Dominican Origin in the United States”, Seth Motel and Eileen Patten state, “Dominicans
are the fifth-largest population of Hispanic origin living in the United States,
accounting for 3.0% of the U.S Hispanic population in 2010”. In other words,
the Dominican population has increased and that is due to many immigrants living
in the U.S and forming a family as well. Dominicans may be looked down on within
the American society, but they are a very important race due to the cultures they
have brought into the U.S and the communities they have created.

Annotated Bibliography link and personal opinion
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B2n4-ggPzyA3SFJ4LVBkNGNoc1U/edit?usp=sharing
Here is my annotated bibliography. It consists of 5 different resources and each article is based on many different factors about Dominicans such as their lifestyle within the U.S, employment struggles, discrimination and reasons why they choose to migrate to the U.S. I may use more than just these articles because I found many articles, journals and magazines that focus on the topic I chose for my research paper. Another source I will include will be my parents' experience and what they went through in order to become the person they are now. I will include statistics as well. Before I thought migrating to another country was easier, but after reading the articles I included in my annotated bibliography I realized that it is very difficult. Dominicans do struggle a lot within the U.S.
I enjoyed doing this assignment :D

Research proposal link
My research proposal focuses on immigration, the history of immigration and it also gives a brief description of what my essay will consist of. My first paragraph is also a rough draft of what my intro will look like. The link to my research proposal is posted below. :)

Immigration Topic/Introduction to Research Proposal
Immigration Resesarch Question: Why do Dominicans choose to migrate to the United States? What benefits them in the United States that is not available in the Dominican Republic (what opportunities aren't available in their country?).
I'm having trouble on how to start off the introduction to the proposal; I'm debating on whether to start off with history of people migrating from DR or begin with a personal history from my parents experiences.

My topic choice
My final topic choice for my research paper will be Immigration. I will focus on the history of Dominicans migrating to U.S, the reason why they chose to migrate to North America. I will use many resources, such as the ones that I provided in my research folder but my main one will be the interviews I will have with my parents. My parents migrated from the Dominican Republic to the U.S (New York) at a very young age and I will use their story/experience as one of the main resources. :)

Research Paper Progress
I haven't started my paper but I do have an idea on what to write about. I'm debating on whether to write about the environment topic 1 or immigration topic I'll most likely end up choosing Immigration and focus on how and why my parents chose to migrate to America.
